Have You Been Inadvertently Hurting Your Diet?

By Myra Lopez

Everybody knows that the most effective foods we can consume are whole grains, lean meats along with healthy fats. These are the foods which will give us the energy and protein we need. They keep the body nutritionally balanced with minimal calories while we work hard to reduce our fat at the gym. Did you know, though, that a number of the foods you are eating that are supposed to be perfectly fine by dietary standards, could be keeping you from losing weight at a good pace? They may be keeping you from losing weight altogether! Here are some of the foods that you may be having which are hurting your efforts to lose weight.

Sports Drinks aren't serving you at all. You have probably been told that a sports drink is the proper way to replenish your body's electrolyte levels after a workout. Most medical doctors agree, however, that if your workout is shorter than ninety minutes, drinking water should be fine. Sports drinks are rich in calories and sugar and a lot of other stuff like artificial flavors and colors that will defeat any of your attempts at eating a natural plus healthy diet. Choose chocolate milk for your beverage as an alternative. The suscrose inside the chocolate can help your muscles start to recover and the calcium in milk keeps your bones strong.

Protein Shakes are not a person's friend. Lots of people believe that ingesting a protein shake is a good way to curb cravings between meals. When you happen to be eating an usually healthy diet, however, a protein shake simply sends you into protein overdose. Contrary to popular thinking, protein doesn't get stored as muscle, it gets stored as fat. This shows that should you have taken in a lot of protein during the day your body stores what it doesn't need in your fat, which won't help you lose weight or inches at all.

Pre-packaged deli meat is not nearly as good for you as you might think it is. You likely believe that a sandwich that is produced from pre-packaged lean deli meat and whole grain bread is a pretty good lunch. Actually, pre-packaged deli meat has far too many preservatives as well as sodium (one helping contains about a third of the amount of sodium you should eat in a day). This is often specifically harmful if you are at risk for heart disease. Rather than buying pre-packaged deli meat, select some home cooked poultry or the deli meats that is newly sliced at your deli counter. Sure these are generally a lot more expensive options but they are tremendously healthier for you.

There are many things that we think are healthier than others like choosing a whole wheat bagel each morning when the truth is that a bowl of cinnamon sprinkled oatmeal is a much healthier choice. Ask a medical expert which items are the finest to eat and then follow the directions you are given. If you give consideration and are careful about what sort of food you let yourself eat, losing weight isn't going to be a terribly big deal.
