Chemicals In Household Products - Cleaning Products Are Only The Tip Of The Iceberg

Products used on a daily basis should not only be effective but also be safe and non-toxic. Too many persons assume that chemicals used to formulate shampoos and soaps and lotions have been carefully tested and are safe. But as crazy as it may sound, unlike pharmaceuticals or pesticides, industrial chemicals do not have to be tested before they are put on the market, and the majority of chemicals in use today have never been independently tested for safety.
BPA and phthalates are two very common hormone-disrupting chemicals. They are found in plastics, food, personal care products, and even dust. Even if a product does not contain phthalates or BPA, it may become contaminated by contact with packaging.
A growing body of evidence is linking chemical exposure in everyday products to a variety of health threats and risks, not only to those exposed to the chemicals, but also potentially to their future children and grandchildren.
Phthalates mimic reproductive and other hormones in the human body. It is known that hormones play a vital role in the development of diabetes, and now researchers have found a link between higher concentrations of phthalates in the body and a higher risk of diabetes in women.
There ARE toxic chemicals in our cosmetics and bath & body products. Formaldehyde, parabens, sodium laureth sulfate and triclosan just to name a few. But the list goes on and on. Take a close look at your shampoo, conditioner, body wash, dry skin cream, make-up, sunscreen, etc. and make sure you are not exposing yourself to endocrine disruptors, carcinogens, reproductive toxicants, and neurotoxins.
Our body naturally has a system that destroys and eliminates toxins. After all, many things that appear naturally in the environment are toxic, and we need to have a strong defense system against them. Organs like the kidneys and liver filter out and remove toxins. However many people have overloaded or very weak detox systems. High levels of toxins and a poor nutritional state leave many people more susceptible to the effects of chronic chemical exposure. By switching to personal care products that are not full of toxins, you can reduce the stress on your detox system and lighten your body's chemical load.
