Reality About Minimally Invasive Weight Loss Surgery

By Timothy Gray

Weight loss surgery has been the best solution for most people with excess weight in the recent past. The majority of these people go for it because they need a quick and efficient means that can readily assist them in controlling their body mass without affecting their daily activities. The diet and activities of a person are always responsible for excess weights and to remedy this one can choose to undertake a minimally invasive weight loss surgery.

Since the most cases of overweight are diet related them the essence of undergoing the surgical operation is to minimise the food amount taken into our body system majorly achieved by reducing the stomach size. There are different types of surgical procedures that are offered. There are four principal ones, that is, duodenal switch, gastric sleeve, adjustable gastric band and gastric bypass.

Gastric by- pass is whereby the doctor removes the stomach and leaves behind a small part of it. This remaining part is known as a pouch. Since the bag is small, it means that one will be forced to eat less. The food eaten will intend to by- pass the whole stomach and pass directly from the pouch to the small intestine.

Adjustable gastric band: in this procedure an elastic band fitted with a regulating balloon is usually mounted at the top of the stomach entrance hence checking the amount of food getting into the stomach. A balloon between the band regulates its tightness. The procedure is almost similar to that of gastric by-pass.

Gastric sleeve: as the name suggests, the surgery involves reducing the size of a stomach such that it becomes sleeve size meaning that the amount of food taken becomes minimal. The interesting bit of this operation is that it can control the hunger causing hunger (enzyme ghrelin).

Last but not least is the duodenal switch. It is not common because it the most complicated but the most useful. In a duodenal switch, just like in other types mentioned above, much of the stomach is removed. Additionally, the food eaten is restricted from passing through much of the small intestines through a gastric sleeve limiting the nutrients absorbed by the small intestines.

Not all surgeries end up being a success. Some patients end up not being satisfied, but this is not the end of the road for them. Doctors typically advise for a particular after surgery known as the revision weight loss surgery which are after some time; after reviewing the first achieved results and how effective they have been.

Thorough consultations and research are vital before going for this operation. One should be able to identify the actual cause of their excess body mass. In the case of an error in the process, fatal effects are possible. Therefore, one has to so careful with who and how the process runs.

One is encouraged to follow the doctors instructions to the latter so that they end up getting the best results. One key precaution is to check on the meals one takes. The food should be the right amount that can be accommodated by ones stomach. Taking frequent exercise is also advisable.

Even though there are different means of dealing with excess weight people should strive to avoid excess body mass by all means possible. The procedure is very demanding.
